This is a time-lapse of the making of a chalkboard I created for Chair 9, the aprés ski bar in The Little Nell, Aspen's five-star hotel.
The footage, captured and edited by Aspen 82, was shot over the course of a week, from early morning into the evening of each day.
I like seeing, in a highly-condensed 20 seconds, what took days to create. Thousands of chalked lines and curves; countless micro-choices regarding color, content, shape, etc; and the rising and setting of the sun.
Before starting on the chalkboard itself, I worked out the general composition in my sketchbook:

The maître d' from the restaurant helped me out one day, chalking in the flying-snow highlights.
